LIGHT & The Electromagnetic Spectrum

EXPECTATIONS: Before we start this unit you should be very comfortable witht he following:

Understand that light is made up of a variety of different types (aside from ROYGBIV)

LEARNING GOALS -- At the conclusion of this unit, I will be able to:

      • list the entire electromagnetic spectrum from highest energy/frequency to lowest energy/frequency

      • list the entire electromagnetic spectrum from highest wavelength to lowest wavelength

      • demonstrate understanding that light has both wave and particle properties

      • show how different types of light are important to study various astronomical phenomenon

      • compare and contrast an emission spectrum with an absorbtion spectrum:

      • Demonstrate understanding of both blueshift and redshifts to the spectra of distant galaxies
